Spring 2021 Covid-19 Academic Standing Policy and Emergency Pass/Fail Grades Addendum

Spring 2021 Covid-19 Addendum

Academic Standing Policy

For Spring 2021, undergraduate students whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 will be placed on probation and not suspension. Students placed on probation are expected to adhere to Satisfactory Academic Progress standards and submit an academic appeal to determine financial aid eligibility for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Undergraduate students whose cumulative GPA is below 2.0 at the end of the Spring 2021 semester will not be placed on suspension but will be placed on probation. Students have until the end of Spring 2022 to improve their GPA to 2.0 or higher. However, students with a GPA below 2.0 must submit an academic appeal for the 2021-2022 academic year to determine financial aid eligibility.

Each semester, the total number of credits students attempt will be compared to the total number of credits earned. Per federal regulations, you must earn at least 67% of the credits you attempt. Graduate and undergraduate students who fall below 67% of their attempted hours and/or have exceeded attempted hours, based on the definition below, must submit an academic appeal to determine financial aid eligibility for the upcoming academic year:

  • Undergraduate students with 180 or more attempted hours must submit an academic appeal.
  • Graduate students with 150% or more attempted hours of their program hours must submit an academic appeal.

Reasons for an academic appeal may include: Sickness due to COVID-19, caring for someone with symptoms due to COVID-19, death of a relative, documented illness or injury, etc.

Emergency Pass/Fail Grades
