Spring 2020 Covid-19 Addendum
Academic Standing Policy
For Spring 2020 ONLY, undergraduate students whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 will be placed on probation and not suspension. Students placed on probation are expected to adhere to Satisfactory Academic Progress standards and submit an academic appeal to determine financial aid eligibility for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Undergraduate students whose cumulative GPA is below 2.0 at the end of Spring 2020 semester will not be placed on suspension but will be placed on probation. Students have until the end of Spring 2021 to improve their GPA to 2.0 or higher. Note, this applies to Spring 2020 only. However, students with a GPA below 2.0 must submit an academic appeal for the 2020-2021 academic year to determine financial aid eligibility.
Each semester, the total number of credits students attempt will be compared to the total number of credits earned. Per federal regulations, you must earn at least 67% of the credits you attempt. Graduate and undergraduate students who fall below 67% of their attempted hours and/or have exceeded attempted hours, based on the definition below, must submit an academic appeal to determine financial aid eligibility for the upcoming academic year:
- Undergraduate students with 180 or more attempted hours must submit an academic appeal.
- Graduate students with 150% or more attempted hours of their program hours must submit an academic appeal.
Reasons for an academic appeal may include: COVID-19 disruption (classes moved from face-to-face to online and could not adjust), sickness due to COVID-19, caring for someone with symptoms due to COVID-19, death of a relative, documented illness or injury, etc.
Emergency Pass/Fail Grades
P (Passed): Passing with grade of C or higher for graduate level students in courses that are not normally a P grade. Credit hours count toward the attempted and earned hours but do not impact the GPA. If the course is required for degree completion, the student will not have to repeat the course.
PA (Passed): Passing with grade A. Grade used for undergraduate students. Credit hours count toward attempted and earned hours but do not impact GPA. If this is a repeated course, the course will not count as part of the repeat. In order to receive the benefit of the repeat, students must accept the letter grade earned. If the course is required for degree completion, the student will not have to repeat the course.
PB (Passed): Passing with grade B. Grade used for undergraduate students. Credit hours count toward attempted and earned hours but do not impact GPA. If this is a repeated course, the course will not count as part of the repeat. In order to receive the benefit of the repeat, students must accept the letter grade earned. If the course is required for degree completion, the student will not have to repeat the course.
PC (Passed): Passing with grade C. Grade used for undergraduate students. Credit hours count toward attempted and earned hours but do not impact GPA. If this is a repeated course, the course will not count as part of the repeat. In order to receive the benefit of the repeat, students must accept the letter grade earned. If the course is required for degree completion, the student will not have to repeat the course.
PD (Passed): Passing with grade D. Grade used for undergraduate students. Credit hours count toward attempted and earned hours but do not impact GPA. If this is a repeated course, the course will not count as part of the repeat. In order to receive the benefit of the repeat, students must accept the letter grade earned. If the course is required for degree completion and a grade of D is passing for the major or elective courses, the student will not need to repeat the course.
FC grade (Failed): Grade used for graduate and undergraduate students. Credit hours count toward attempted hours but do not impact earned hours or GPA. If the course is required for degree completion, the student must repeat the course. The FC grade will not terminate a graduate level student from their program.
Course Withdrawals
CW – Course withdrawal due to COVID-19 Pandemic. The course withdrawal will not affect the student’s remaining number of career withdrawals.
