MATS 460 - Electronic Materials and Processing Credit Hours: 4 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 2
This is an in-depth course that focuses on electronic and optoelectronic materials. It discusses the materials science of semiconductor processing, with emphasis on elemental (silicon and germanium) and III-V compound (gallium arsenide) semiconductors and related materials. The course includes the thermochemistry of semiconductors, the dynamics of defect formation, and the processing and process control to achieve desired materials properties. The course discusses the principles of design and production of novel materials to obtain electronic devices with superior performances; in essence, the science of how to obtain nanostructured electronic and opto-electronic materials. Prerequisite: MATS 360
