STEM Undergraduate Research Certificate

The STEM Undergraduate Research Certificate Program will expose students from STEM departments to the highest academic standards and provide them with guidance, academic mentorship, and opportunities to participate in authentic research. The certificate requires nine hours of coursework related to undergraduate research. Students are also required to give a public presentation of the research project at the FSU Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium or other research symposia/conferences and submit a manuscript to STREAMS: FSU Journal for Undergraduate Research and Creative Works or any other peer-reviewed journals for publication.

 

Requirements include:

· Undergraduate research methods course: 3 credits

· Two research intensive courses (students must spend more than 50% of class time on original research): 6 credits

· A public presentation of the research project: 0 credits

· A manuscript submission to STREAMS: FSU Journal for Undergraduate Research and Creative Works or other peer-reviewed journals: 0 credits

· BIOL 225 - Scientific Communication

· BIOL 430 - Special Problems

· BIOL 499 - Senior Capstone Experience

· BTCH 425 - Bioinformatics

· BTCH 490 - Research in Biotechnology

· FORS 410 - Technical Writing in Forensic Science

· FORS 460 - Capstone

 

Chemistry and Physics:

· CHEM 390 - Research I

· CHEM 490 - Chemistry Research and Ethics

· CHEM 491 - Research II

· CHEM 492 - Research II and Thesis

· CHEM 499 - Chemistry Capstone

 

Mathematics and Computer Science:

· CSC 490 - Senior Project

· MATH 432 - Read/Honors in Math

 

Students may also apply any research intensive courses not listed above if approved by the department chair.
