Program Requirements
Core Requirements: Minimum of 38-40 credits in the core curriculum required of all students. Students who enter as first-time freshmen must take an entering freshman and rising junior assessment to complete core requirements.
Program Admission Requirements: See Admission Requirements for Teacher Education majors on the College of Education catalog page. Students must fulfill all requirements for admission to Teacher Education and Clinical Experience.
Other Major Requirements: Grade of C or higher in all education, concentration, and major courses, including Teacher Internship.
Graduation Requirements: All graduating seniors are required to complete the Graduating Senior Assessment after completing 90 or more semester hours (including credit by examination), but not later than the graduation semester.

University College Core Curriculum: 39 Credits
Transitional Studies - University Studies: 2 Credits
UNIV 101 -UNIV 102 required for all first time students; UNIV 110 required for transfer students with fewer than 30 transfer credits. Students do not earn credit if requirement is waived. UNIV 111 may be required based on academic performance. Select one option from the following: Transitional Studies - Life Skills: 2 Credits
Communication Skills - Written Communication: 3 Credits
Select from the following: ** Courses can be used to satisfy Core and Foundations of American Democracy requirements. Communication Skills - Oral Communication: 3 Credits
Information Literacy: 3 Credits
Reasoning Skills - Critical Thinking: 3 Credits
Not required for students with 60+ transfer credits. Students do not earn credit if requirement is waived. Reasoning Skills - Quantitative Reasoning: 3 Credits
MATH 121 may be required based on profile scores. Some core courses require a one-hour lab. Scientific Literacy - Natural Sciences: 8 Credits
At least one natural science class must include its associated lab. Some majors require two lab sciences, increasing requirement to 8 credits. Scientific Literacy - Social Sciences: 3 Credits
Select one from the following: ** Courses can be used to satisfy Core and Foundations of American Democracy requirements. Humanities and Creative Arts: 3 Credits
Select one from the following: Global Literacy: 3 Credits
Not required for students with 30+ transfer credits from a foreign institution. Students do not earn credit if requirement is waived. Select one from the following: Ethics and Civic Engagement: 3 Credits
Foundations of American Democracy
Not required for students with 60+ transfer credits. Select three credits from the courses below. The course selected must also be used to satisfy another Core or major requirement. The credits count only once. Program Requirements: 81 Credits
Professional Education Courses: 32 Credits
Elementary Education Major Core: 27 Credits
(Formal admission to Teacher Education required to enroll in ELEM 400 , ELEM 401 , ELEM 402 ) Elective Concentration Requirement: 3 Credits
Effective Fall 2023, Elementary Education K-6 majors will select one 3-credit course from the Elective Content Area Courses group. Courses within this group will be made available to students during their advising session. Major Electives: 4 Credits
Other Major Requirement: 3 Credits
Restricted Electives: 12 Credits
