Program Requirements
Must already have a baccalaureate degree or be lateral entry teacher seeking special education teacher licensure. Overall minimum GPA of 2.7 (3.0 preferred) on 4.0 scale for all undergraduate work or minimum 3.0 on 4.0 scale in last 60 hours of study which may include no more than 12 hours graduate study. Students may have to take additional undergraduate special education coursework in order to meet licensure requirements. Students are required to remove academic area deficiencies prior to enrollment in the graduate methods course and internship. See advisor or department chair for evaluation of these courses. Provide scores from either the GRE general section or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) taken within the last five years. The GRE or MAT are not required for students who currently hold a Master’s Degree. Three letters of recommendation. Resume and written essay outlining applicant’s graduate educational goals and professional objectives.

Initial Licensure Requirements: 27 Credits
Initial licensure (A-level) requirements in SPED: General Curriculum must be completed prior to completing MAT program.
Advanced Licensure Specialty Area Requirements: 12 Credits
(EDUC 690 should be taken prior to SPED 698 . SPED 698 should be taken during the last semester of coursework)
Total Credit Hours: 39
Additional Notes
No more than 12 semester hours to be counted toward degree may be completed prior to formal admission to MAT degree program. Credit hours may vary according to entering credentials.
